An insider guide to our regions
Overview of the Tenuta Thun
Tenuta Thun lies in an area called Maremma, a lesser known and therefore all the more captivating part of Tuscany, 25 km inland from the coast, close to the peninsula Monte Argentario. Maremma is one of the lesser-known areas of Tuscany – but unique in its unspoiled and understated beauty. The region’s breathtaking landscapes, including rolling hills, mountain villages, vineyards and a beautiful coastline, offer a quiet and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Maremma is rich in history and culture. Many ancient ruins and medieval towns are waiting to be explored – from the Etruscans to the Romans and from the Renaissance to the present day, the Maremma has a rich cultural heritage and is home to numerous museums and galleries. The area is also known for its delicious food and wine, with many local specialties to taste. Tenuta Thun is located in the DOCG production area of Morellino di Scansano, an excellent red wine that must consist of at least 85% Sangiovese grapes.
The 60 acres estate mainly produces extra virgin olive oil, which can be bought on the premises.
The owners of the estate are both originally from Austria but have spent many years living and working abroad. With Tenuta Thun, they fulfilled a lifelong dream—a small estate with around 1,000 olive trees, located in one of the most beautiful areas of Maremma. The estate offers a unique view towards Monte Argentario and across the Albegna Valley, while the tranquility and beauty of nature, along with the engagement in agriculture, provide the perfect balance to their previously busy lives.
The center of the property is marked by the newly built main house and cottage. The very charming cottage sleeping 4, with a pergola for al-fresco meals, is available for weekly rents.
