Golf della Montecchia: Environmental Golf Club of the Year
A golf club with its own beehive and vegetable garden? It exists. Right next to La Montecchia, one of our trusted estates in the Veneto.
But eco-friendly practices don’t stop with honey-making at Golf della Montecchia. At the BIGA Conference Show in Harrogate, UK, the club was named International Environmental Golf Club of 2024. The award honours the nature conservation, turf grass, and sustainable waste and water management that Golf La Montecchia started to put into practice more than 10 years ago.
Thanks to the introduction of Bermuda grass, the use of water and fertilizers has been significantly limited and pesticides have been completely eliminated. The club has also undertaken various studies and projects aimed at safeguarding fauna, flora, and landscape.
I recently learnt about several drought-resistant species for private lawns at Botanical Dry Garden (link blog post) in southern Tuscany and am overjoyed to hear that these approaches have reached the world of golf too!
